THE WORLD’S greatest award in silence!

With the Greenhush Award, we aspire to turn up the volume on climate achievements performed in silence, away from the spotlight and media attention. The award goes to a company or organization which actively work to decrease its CO2-emissions, without talking about it. At a time when we don’t have the time to wait, information about a corporation’s climate impact is essential to the costumer’s ability to make an informed decision. The Greenhush Award is a call to the business community to do honest, relevant and engaging sustainability communication.

Background

The Greenhush Award aims to encourage companies to openly discuss their climate efforts in an honest, relevant, and engaging manner. Both greenhush and greenwash are unacceptable; we should neither downplay nor exaggerate the climate benefits of what we do. In a 2023 survey, 80 out of 100 Swedish companies stated that it has become more difficult to communicate net-zero targets, and greenhush is described as the new normal.* The EU Green Claims Directive increases the demands on corporate businesses to verify sustainability claims. This is good news, but as it is crucial for everyone to make the right choices, it is just as important that companies with solutions to the climate crisis actually share them.

Everyone knows that the perfect company doesn’t exist, but by transparently communicating both progress and less favorable results, we can strengthen both understanding and trust among customers and employees. In other words, there is no reason for companies with good climate efforts to remain silent, instead, we urge them to share their best initiatives and ensure to inspire others!

Receiving the award as a company should be seen as confirmation of their climate efforts, but also as a nudge towards louder communication. For how can we achieve the international climate targets if the solutions are silent?

The Greenhush Award was established in 2023, founded by The Swedish 2030-Secretariat and the brand and communications agency The Bacon Hospital.

The Swedish 2030-Secretariat has simply one goal: to ensure that Sweden reaches its climate target by 2030, more precisely 70 percent emission reduction between 2010 and 2030 within the transport sector. With partners amongst corporations, NGO:s and science it is one of the most influential Swedish non-governmental organizations engaged in reducing carbon dioxide emissions from the transport sector.

The Bacon Hospital (2020-2024) was a Swedish pioneering brand and communications agency specialised in creative and strategic sustainability communications. It was founded by Martin Kann and Lina Gustavsson.

Winner 2024

Meet, Teams, and Zoom

The Jury's Statement

”Online meetings through Meet, Teams, Zoom and other platforms are top-of-mind for the behavioral change that started during the pandemic and has now become the new normal. Meeting online instead of physically traveling saves time, reduces costs and helps us meet the climate challenge much faster than other transitions. Still, there is not much talk about how they are part of climate solutions, which is why they are awarded with the Greenhush Award.”

Sweden's Public Transportation

The Jury's Statement

“The shift to sustainable public transportation in Sweden has benefited all people living, traveling and visiting Sweden. It serves as important inspiration at a time when climate adjustment can be hard to grasp. But if the solutions are unknown of, it cannot inspire others who face the same transition.”
